In-desk power modules bring sockets up into the work surface, with options such as modules made for soft seating and Volta pop-up units suited to boardroom tables. They suit Irish offices and meeting rooms that want laptops charged without extension leads trailing across the floor from the nearest wall socket.
Sockets sit at skirting level while people work at table height. Long meetings with laptops tend to end with a lead stretched from the wall, which looks untidy and creates a trip hazard. A pop-up module sits flush with the surface when it is closed, so the table looks clean until someone needs power.
If you are choosing a new table at the same time, our meeting and boardroom tables are a good place to start. Planning power and table together avoids cutting into a new top later.
A module still has to be supplied with power from somewhere. For a boardroom, the usual answer is a floor box positioned beneath the table, which belongs with the building plans rather than the furniture order. Settle it before the table arrives, so the power is in the right place on the day.
