Ceiling baffles are acoustic panels that hang down from the ceiling, including the Hatch and Shade designs from the SCH! range. In many modern offices the walls are already taken up by glazing, windows or whiteboards, so the ceiling is the natural place to add absorption, particularly in Irish offices with heavily glazed rooms.
Sound travels upwards, strikes a hard ceiling and reflects back into the room. Placing absorption overhead puts it right in that path, so a baffle can often achieve more than the same area of panel on a wall. Baffles also hang above head height, taking no floor or wall space and staying out of harm's way.
Baffles have to be fixed into the ceiling structure or hung from an existing grid. In leased premises that may need the landlord's consent, and with a suspended ceiling the grid must be able to carry the weight. Where overhead fixing is not possible, look at hanging acoustics or wall tiles instead.
Baffles on their own will not cure a loud room, so spread absorption across the ceiling and walls. Our acoustic solutions show the full range, and the SCH! Acoustic Collection keeps the look consistent from one format to the next.
