Each desk with storage is supplied with a pedestal or built-in drawers in the same finish, so the whole workstation arrives as one item. These sets suit Irish offices kitting out new starters and home workers who want everything sorted in a single order, and they take the guesswork out of pairing drawers with a desk.
Two problems a combined order avoids
- Height: a pedestal taller than the space beneath the desk will not slide in, and that usually comes to light on the day the furniture is fitted. Buying the pair together settles the question.
- Finish: a desk and pedestal ordered separately in what looks like the same colour can arrive in shades of wood that do not quite agree.
Fixed or mobile pedestal
A fixed pedestal forms part of the desk and makes the whole unit more rigid. That suits a permanent position with heavy filing, where the drawers will stay put for years.
A mobile pedestal sits on castors and rolls out from under the desk, so the worktop can be used for other jobs. With a cushion top, a mobile unit can even double as a spare seat. Where desks are shared through hot desking, mobile is the one to choose.
Where a set makes sense
A desk and pedestal set is a tidy way to equip a new starter, a small office or a home study, because one product covers the lot and the pieces are designed to go together. It also keeps a room consistent when several people are fitted out at once.
If you already have desks
When you only need the storage, choose from our pedestals and drawers range, and measure the clearance under the desk you own before ordering. For larger filing needs, the wider storage and filing section has more options, and you can browse every shape in office desks.
